80% of all marine debris found in the ocean is land based, and 80-90% of the marine debris is made from plastic.
What kind of plastic is found in the ocean? Plastic bags, plastic bottles, plastic utensils., and plastic STRAWS.

How many times have you ordered a drink and there has been a single use, plastic straw. Did you ask for a straw? Probably not, it’s so ingrained in our culture now to just receive this.
Here’s some statistics about the United States:
- Makes up 5% of the world’s population
- Consumes 30% of the world’s resources
- Creates 30% of the world’s waste
How do we as a country and a society cut back on waste? We make a concerted effort to reduce, reuse and recycle. And sometimes that means totally re-evaluating how we do the most mundane things-like eating out. You will use less plastic if you never used another straw again.
So consider taking The Last Straw challenge. Ask ahead when you order-no straws please. Reject them immediately. If you’re a hard core straw addict, consider keeping metal reusable straws in your car and your purse. Doing something this small could make a HUGE difference.
Remember, plastic does not biodegrade-so every plastic straw you’ve ever put your lips to is still out in the world, and theres a good chance it’s in the ocean by now. So please, consider this small sacrifice, and other ways you can cut down on your plastic consumption.

or STRAWLESS OCEAN to learn how you can #stopsucking before their claim:
If we don’t act now, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
